Dogs have their own social media channels these days, and poodles are no exception. I would say breeds like the Poodle, Chihuahua, or Italian Greyhound are particularly well-represented on social media. I have to admit, my poodle Burberry Balenciaga had her own Instagram channel when she was a puppy and was, therefore, a social media poodle from the start. In this article, you will find out which social media we are active on, what we post when, how and where, and, above all, what it brings and has brought us! Because as you probably know, Burberry is a dog model and a real internet star among dogs.
From Instagram to TikTok
Instagram worked great for us at first. In a very short time, less than half a year, we reached 60k followers. Then unfortunately it happened that someone gained access to our account. This happened very quickly, I got the message that someone had logged in and I ignored it because I’m constantly logging in and out on my cell phone, laptop or tablet. I just didn’t think about it and didn’t have two-factor authentication. Then the next day, I opened Instagram on my phone (I’m always logged in) and received a message from Instagram that my account had been blocked due to suspicious activity. I should please confirm the email address and change the password. I did that, when your account is suddenly blocked with 60k, I can tell you, you start to panic.
The fact is that at that moment I made the mistake (at least I think so). I confirmed the email and entered a new password. My account was released again by Facebook and I think from that moment someone else had access. Almost 2 weeks later my login details were completely changed. A completely new email address, new password and I had no access and couldn’t do anything – a nightmare!
The whole thing left me quite demotivated at first and that’s why I started TikTok. But TikTok is just not my platform, we’re making slow progress and we’re also currently rebuilding Instagram. So I would be very happy about your support. What you can do: You can follow us, like our posts, comment and, most importantly, SHARE! Watch our story and write to me – I am actually a real person, I look forward to your message and of course I will answer you.
We start on YouTube
It was time to help our social media Poodle plan be a little more successful, and I saw real potential in YouTube. I wasn’t disappointed here either! We started with shorts. Basically, these were our TikTok videos that I downloaded without the typical TikTok stamp – that just meant less work. We posted and still post 3 YouTube Shorts a day. The first at 10 o’clock in the morning, then at 3 o’clock in the afternoon and the last at 8 o’clock in the evening. In the first two weeks we had around 400 to 500 views per video, slowly growing.
This motivated me immensely, which is why I started planning long-form videos. It took a little longer until the first ones went online. But we’re currently posting a long-form video here every other day – that’s very ambitious, but until we see the first successes, we’ll just keep doing it.
This is how your dog becomes a social media poodle
Social media is full and the competition is huge. I know all these online gurus always say content is child, be unique and stand out – but that’s not that easy anymore and this stupid saying content is king isn’t really true anymore. I see so many great dog accounts every day that take incredible photos, in great settings, teaching the dog tricks and that really have photo quality and these accounts don’t get any followers or likes. And then in return there is a Heike with an unkempt dog in the garden, dirt and disorder in the background and she gets 3000 likes. I see this so often and ask myself, how can this be?
Yes, you know why, our Heike has all day to write to her dog friends on Instagram, who then like her bad pictures. Because your content can be photographed in the back of the garden in 3 minutes, and you don’t even have to comb the dog!
So if you really want to be successful these days, be nice to stupid Heike! Put effort into your photos and videos, be consistent and persevere. Make a plan and of course you need enough time. Posting and then going offline is no longer possible these days. Be active, do it like Heike!
*By the way, Heike is just an example, the name is completely made up. It could also be an Anna or an Elke. The name doesn’t matter. But I’m sure you understand what I mean.
Approach the matter with a plan and strategy, use your content multiple times! I post my TikTok videos on TikTok, Pinterest and YouTube, for example. Be smart and save double and triple the work!
