Is the pumpkin part of Halloween or not? For me, it is definitely. I love pumpkins in fall, pumpkin soup, and pumpkin cake, but my absolute favorite is a Pumpkin Spice Cafe Latte (from Starbucks). Everyone has their little weaknesses. But my biggest weakness is my miniature Poodle Burberry Balenciaga. So that she remains the undisputed dog fashion queen, I made her a pumpkin dog bandana myself to match Halloween.
Halloween dog fashion
I love Halloween and I love dressing my dog appropriately for such occasions. What’s important to me is that these clothes keep you warm, because it’s really cold and my poodle has no undercoat. Burberry has already been sick several times, we don’t need to repeat that. Dogs without an undercoat freeze quickly and that’s why they need clothing. Furthermore, it is important to me that Burberry can move freely and is not restricted in her life as a dog. And, of course, it shouldn’t look ridiculous. So as you can tell, I’m not a big fan of most Halloween costumes for dogs. They are often poorly made and of low quality so that they do not keep you warm or have the wrong fit. In addition, they are usually overpriced.
Luckily, I’m a tailor and can knit and embroider like you can read in: This is how we got into dog fashion. This means I can easily make the Halloween dog outfits for Burberry myself. I didn’t think our Halloween dog outfits would be so well received and I promise to create a detailed DIY collection of Halloween outfits next year. By the way, the DIYs for dogs have already started on YouTube. So you see: We really take criticism and suggestions to heart and implement them in the best possible way!
Pumpkin dog bandana for Halloween
It was the first time I knitted a dog bandana. I think knitwear is perfect for autumn and winter, including Halloween. Sewing the pumpkin dog bandana would have been much easier and, above all, quicker for me – but that wasn’t in keeping with the idea.
The biggest problem with a knitted dog bandana is the closure. I can’t knot the bandana because the knit wears out and the knot would end up being as big as Burberry’s head – not very aesthetic. And snap fasteners wouldn’t be an option either because sewing them onto the coarse knit doesn’t sound very stable to me and again, knit wears out. So, my idea: a knitted bandana that we can put over the collar. Like pearls on a necklace. Great idea, because it worked perfectly and I think there will be a few more knitted dog bandanas in the future.
After knitting and sewing together the pumpkin dog bandana in bright orange, I cut out the pumpkin face from felt fabric. Of course everyone can make the pumpkin grin the way they like, I wanted it to be classic. Sew on the felt pieces that make up the pumpkin face by hand using black sewing thread and the pumpkin dog bandana is ready. You can see it here in different styling versions. Which one do you like better?
